I'm a self-proclaimed hippie at heart. While I'm not as crunchy as I'd like to be, I do what I can, whenever I can. It doesn't take a whole lot of extra effort or even extra time. We recycle. We buy products/packaging made with recycled materials. I own cleaning chemicals, but stick to my earth friendly, homemade formulas regularly. (Not to mention cleaning chemicals and bleach are terrible for your pets, children, or even yourself.) We're still learning and still changing our habits. So when I see people treat the world like their trashcan, it angers me beyond belief. And I want to know why. Why aren't people recycling, even the simplest things? Cardboard, plastic, aluminum- this is the easiest thing to do. Are they that selfish? Once it goes away it's not for them to worry about? It seems most places in the country have recycling pickup, ours does not. So, we have bins that we separate all of our thrash in and once, maybe twice, a month we load it up and haul it away to the recycling center. Minimal effort. Don't get me started on people who throw trash out of their car window. It makes me want to hurl boulders at them.
So, if you're reading this and thinking uhhh, is she talking about me? YES. Yes, I am. Are going to do something about it?
THE WORLD IS NOT YOUR TRASHCAN.

We got recycling bins 2 years ago and they are the same size as our trash cans! They are huge! We fill our recycling quicker than our trash can. I'm so glad we got these bins because before them we only recycled cans. I'm trying to be better about any products we use, especially now that we have Cullen. I should use your recipe for cleaning products. "recipe/mixture" ;)
We are big time recyclers here!!! I wish I could be "green" enough to use cloth diapers but I do soooo much wash as is :/ PS love the new layout- very YOU- simply chic!
Adding recycling to our trash service is on my list of things to do - it's so easy, and truthfully, I've just been lazy about it...but at least I don't throw trash out my car window! :)
I totally agree. These days it is fairly easy to recycle and do simple things to not harm the environment. I know people that have a free recycling pick up service to their home but don't use it. It makes me furious. Especially when I do the same as you and haul off my own recyleables every couple weeks to a recycling drop off. And worst, the ones who just plain litter.
Well said! Seriously it is so easy!!! At first when we started it took a few weeks to fully get in the groove but now its second nature, our recycling overflows every week and hello less buying of stupid trash bags, its a win win!
We recycle everything we can! We are big recyclers! I'd love to do more, re:cloth diapers, but maybe one day I'll get there.
We recycle everything. Like some other commenters said, our recycing bins get full faster than our trash bins. We also have organic bins here, do you have that?
omg, i used to totally throw shit out my window as a teenager. now i now better... but its true.. people that do it suck. including my old little self.
we are TRYING to recycle more... its a whole learning process. we have a recycle bin/trash can that they pick up every other thursday, so that helps.
